Purdue student scheduled to graduate dies night before commencement

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Purdue University student who was scheduled to graduate Sunday died overnight, the university said.

A Purdue spokesperson said Kyle Runkle, a senior in Purdue's School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, died overnight.

No cause of death was provided.

"We are saddened any time we experience a student’s death and offer our condolences and support to their family and friends," said Katie Sermersheim, Purdue's associate vice provost and dean of students. "As a reminder, Purdue offers resources and support to all members of our campus community."

Purdue held its winter commencement ceremonies Sunday morning.

The university is offering resources for students impacted by Runkle's death through its Counseling & Psychological Services department.
