US Senators to star in Survivor-like reality show

It's no secret that the Democratic and Republican members of Congress sometimes have some trouble getting along. But hey, ever wonder what would happen if they were stuck on a deserted island together?

The Discovery Channel's new special is doing just that. "Rival Survival" stars one Democratic and one Republican senator struggling for survival on an island with no one to help them but each other.

But who would sign up for something like this?

Well, apparently these guys. Republican Sen. Jeff Flake from Arizona and Democratic Sen. Martin Heinrich from New Mexico have teamed up for the project. Cameras will follow Flake and Heinrich for one week on an island with uninhabited land, surrounded by shark-infested waters.

Flake served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. He was against big government spending and was adamant about immigration reform.

And Heinrich was elected in 2012 and currently serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources, Intelligence, and Joint Economic committees.

The special is being produced by Renegade, the same producers behind Discovery's highly publicized show, "Naked and Afraid."
