Wal-Mart announced on Wednesday that it has received a shipment of the hit toy Hatchimals, and will have dozens available at 1,700 of its stores beginning Thursday.

According to Wal-Mart, the Hatchimals will be on sale at $48.88, well below the retail value for the popular toy that has not been able to stay on shelves.

A Wal-Mart representative recommended customers calling ahead to their local Wal-Mart to find out when they'll have the toys available.

Wal-Mart is among several retailers that are making the toy available. Target announced yesterday that its stores will have a limited release of Hatchimals beginning on Sunday at most of its stores.

Also, a Toys R Us spokesperson said on Monday that its stores are expecting replenish quantities of Hatchimals over the holidays.

The makers of Hatchimals said in a statement that it is expecting to increase supplies of the toy in January.

"This is a special season and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed, nor do we support inflated prices from non-authorized resellers," Hatchimals said in a statement. "While additional product will hit retail shelves in December, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017."

Because retailers have extremely limited quantities of the toys, eBay sellers are scooping up the toy and reselling  at 2 to 3 times the retail value. While the typical retail price for a Hatchimal is between $60 and $70, auctions on eBay are going for more than $150.

What are Hatchimals? It starts as an egg that needs to be nurtured. Once the egg hatches, kids can teach Hatchimals how to talk, walk and dance. You can also unlock games on Hatchimals.
