Wesleyan University fraternities ordered to allow women

Posted

A Connecticut school is now required to allow women into its fraternities.

Wesleyan University’s college administration recently ordered the change in an effort to make it an all-inclusive school.

Two all-male fraternities — Delta Kappa Epsilon and Psi Upsilon, are affected.

An email to students and faculty on Monday from Wesleyan President Michael S. Roth and Board of Trustees Chairman Joshua Boger said the change must occur within the next three years if the organizations want to continue to be recognized.

Within the last month, the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house was closed after a student was seriously injured when she fell from a window on the third floor, according to reports. Administrators have been overhauling the Greek system on the campus for several years.

The Associated Press reports no sororities have houses on the campus, and that the order doesn’t affect the off-campus Greek houses.
