TULSA - Neighbors said they were "completely shocked" by the death of 73-year-old Janet Donovan in her home at the Timbers Condominiums this past week.
On Friday Tulsa Police found Donovan dead in her home.
Neighbors did not wish to go on camera concerning they incident. But they said Donovan was a nice woman who kept to herself.
One woman said things likes this never happen in the neighborhood.
A statement the neighborhood's Homeowners Association echoed.
"We have lived at the Timbers for over 20 years and have found it to be a very pleasant and friendly community... It came as a complete shock to learn of the recent crime committed against one of our neighbors," said Vice President Sharon Bickle.
The Tulsa Police Department said their investigation showed this behavior was not out of character for the suspect, 57-year-old Steven Retherford.
"Everybody we talked to said he's very demanding, very controlling, and he's a big fella, six foot - he's a big guy. Bald-headed, very confrontational. I don't know that I would classify him as mentally ill, but he's definitely not a good guy," said Sergeant Dave Walker.
He said Retherford was arrested last Saturday for "wreaking havoc" in the neighborhood. He had broken windows amongst other things.
Retherford posted bond and was released on Monday. Police believe he killed Donovan on Wednesday.
Friday, police found the suspect getting into the victim's car at I-44 and Harvard. When officer's approached him he shot and killed himself.
Police believe Retherford was the only suspect in this homicide. They don't expect the Timbers neighborhood to suffer any more danger from this incident.
