The shot put is one of the oldest events in Olympic history, and maybe one of the least appreciated.
We were told in preparation for our Oral Roberts University hurl that shot putters have to be massive, quick and explosive.
Well, yours truly has the massive -- but not the quick or explosive. And my colleague Cayden McFarland isn't exactly 300 pounds.
The world record in the shot put, set by American Randy Barnes in 1990, is more than 75 feet.
Cayden and I -- less than 20.
This event....no longer unappreciated by us.
